Zhao Bin, deputy director of the pharmacy department at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said that for the health and safety of family members, there are many details to pay attention to when stockpiling drugs in terms of type selection, storage environment, and cleaning and discarding.
First of all, the choice of medicine cabinet is exquisite. Zhao Bin said that the medicine box should be clean, dry, odorless, suitable in size, simple in structure, convenient to use, strong and durable, avoid using cartons, avoid too deep, and airtight containers are not necessary.
What medicines and appliances should be stored in the medicine cabinet? Zhao Bin believes that according to the diseases and physical conditions of himself and his family, the following categories can be prepared: thermometer, blood glucose meter, sphygmomanometer, scissors, tweezers and other instruments; commonly used drugs: such as drugs you are using, cold medicine, antipyretics, antidiarrheal drugs, antitussives, gastric motility drugs, acid suppressants, etc., emergency drugs: such as anti-allergy drugs, alcohol, scald ointment, hemostatic drugs; band-aid, gauze, masks, tape, cotton swabs, gloves and other supplies; vitamins, fish oil, chondroitin, melatonin and other formal health products. Do not store and use prescription drugs on your own, except for those prescribed by your doctor.
"Drugs can be classified and stored according to family members' health status, age and other factors, and can be divided into children's drugs, commonly used drugs for adults, drugs for chronic diseases in the elderly, and so on." Zhao Bin said that children's drugs and adult drugs should be placed separately, and internal drugs and external drugs should also be placed separately. Do not throw the outer packaging box of drugs, but store them together with drugs. Do not combine drugs. Finally, remember to make a list of medicines.
Improper storage of medicines may endanger health. Zhao Bin said that drugs should be stored in strict accordance with the instructions. Generally, the temperature of the medicine box should not be too high or too low. Avoid placing it in the refrigerator, beside the heater, on the electric blanket, etc. Some drugs can be stored in the refrigerator according to the instructions. At the same time, the humidity of the medicine box should be moderate, avoid putting the medicine box in the drying box, bathroom or toilet.
"Parents should also avoid placing the medicine cabinet where children can easily reach it, so as not to take the medicine by mistake." Zhao Bin said, for this reason, attention should be paid: don't place the medicine casually, put the medicine away after taking the medicine, keep the lid of the medicine bottle tightly, don't tell the child that the medicine is sugar in order to let the child cooperate with the medicine, and don't let the child see the placement of the medicine.
In addition, Zhao Bin suggested that expired drugs should be cleaned up and discarded regularly, and drugs should be checked every three months. Take out all the drugs, check and place them one by one, and observe whether there are changes in color, hardness and viscosity, oil-water stratification, clarity changes, crystallization or moisture absorption, mildew, etc. Expired drugs and packaging should be put into harmful garbage bins, drugs should be destroyed before disposal, special drugs must be returned to the hospital for treatment.
