It all comes from "bad breath"!
In fact, there are not a few people with bad breath. An epidemiological survey shows that more than 28% of people have bad breath symptoms. Everyone can have bad breath. Our mouth is like a miniature factory, where tens of thousands of bacteria live. They eat the debris of food and make a bad smell. Even if they brush their teeth every day, they can't avoid it.
But many friends with bad breath wonder, "why can't I smell it myself?"
Reason one:Too familiar with their own smell. Olfactory nerve cells stay with their own "odor" for a long time, forming nerve fatigue, making their "odor" difficult to detect.
Reason two:It has to do with human facial construction. The soft palate at the back of the mouth is connected to the nasal cavity, so the nose generally cannot smell the odor produced by the back of the mouth.
So how to detect whether you have bad breath?
1. Tongue color
The tongue of a normal person is pink, while the color of the tongue of a person with a taste in the mouth is usually white or yellow.
2. Clearing teeth
Clean your teeth with dental floss before brushing. If there is a strange smell on the dental floss, it means that the risk of bad breath is very high.
3. Smell the smell
Close the left and right palms into a closed bowl, wrap the mouth and nose, and then take a breath into the gathered palms to smell the smell in your mouth.
4. Wrist lick
Stick your tongue out and hold it on your wrist for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, you can smell your breath.
5. The ultimate "trick"
Find people close to you and let them smell your mouth up close.
For different reasons, there are different classifications of bad breath.
Generally speaking, the tone that cannot be made by oneself is pathological.
Oral halitosis
Studies have shown that 90% of pathological halitosis comes from the oral cavity, which is called "oral halitosis". People suffering from dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, oral necrotizing inflammation and other oral diseases are prone to bacteria, which decompose to produce volatile sulfides (its composition is somewhat similar to farts) and acids and other decomposition substances, thus producing halitosis.
Non-oral halitosis
Another 10% of bad breath is caused by reasons outside the mouth, which is called "non-oral bad breath".
The pharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, lungs and stomach, and the organs adjacent to the mouth can be sources of odor. Therefore, if there is no problem with the oral cavity, you must consider the possibility of sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, gastritis, gastric ulcer, hepatitis, kidney disease, diabetes, uremia, etc., in addition, leukemia, vitamin deficiency, heavy metal poisoning and other diseases may also cause bad breath.
In addition to the pathological, there is a physiological bad breath. It refers to short-term bad breath caused by not paying attention to oral hygiene and bad living habits.
Such as: eating irritating food, smoking, long-term drinking, eating meat, staying up late, excessive fatigue, etc.
We simply and roughly divide bad breath into two categories: what we can deal with vs. what we can't deal.
I can handle it myself.
Among the many bacteria in the mouth, odor-producing bacteria are the main culprit of bad breath. Everything should be carried out around the elimination of odor-producing bacteria. We can do this.
1. Strengthen oral hygiene
Choose the right brushing method, brush at least 2 times a day. Daily cleaning such as floss cleaning and tongue brushing.
2. Gargle quickly after eating
3. Use mouthwash with antibacterial ingredients
It can inhibit or kill odor-producing bacteria, but this mouthwash must be selected under the guidance of a doctor and cannot be used for a long time.
4. Abandon bad habits
Like smoking, drinking.
I can't deal with it myself.
Long-term oral odor does not dissipate, so we should pay attention to it. There are three situations that we cannot handle by ourselves. We need to find a doctor to help treat various physical diseases that may cause halitosis.
1. Odor-producing bacteria hide in places you can't clean yourself.
For example, periodontal disease, pericoronitis of wisdom teeth, severe tooth decay, etc. Teeth and teeth fit together or teeth with rotten holes can hide 60% ~ 70% of the total amount of dental plaque in the oral cavity. You can't take it at all.
2. Decreased saliva secretion
This may be related to many factors such as drug effects, salivary gland diseases, radiation damage, and the loss of self-cleaning ability of teeth.
3. Other diseases
The smell of problems in other parts is mainly due to chronic systemic diseases such as digestive tract, respiratory tract or systemic diseases, such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, stomach disease, pneumonia, diabetes, etc.
To sum up:
If you want to say goodbye to halitosis, you must first treat the original diseases in your mouth. For those pathological halitosis, we should go to otolaryngology and related internal medicine to check other diseases of the body in time, and do detailed examination and further treatment. For oral halitosis, we should pay attention to the daily care of oral cavity and the change of living habits.
