At present, there are some hot-selling products on the market with the name of "toothpaste", which claim to have the effects of "anti-Helicobacter pylori" and "removing halitosis through anti-Helicobacter pylori. Many of these products are not really toothpastes. So, what is toothpaste? Can toothpaste treat diseases? Here, remind consumers to pay attention to the following points:

  1. toothpaste can't claim medical effects
Toothpaste is a semi-solid preparation that acts on the surface of human teeth in the way of brushing teeth and plays an auxiliary cleaning role. Toothpaste has the effect of beautifying, protecting teeth and surrounding tissues. According to the Regulations on the Supervision and Administration of Cosmetics that came into effect on January 1, 2021, toothpaste is managed with reference to the regulations of ordinary cosmetics; after the toothpaste is evaluated in accordance with national standards and industry standards, it can be claimed to have anti-caries, anti-plaque, and anti-Dentin sensitivity, reduce gum problems and other effects. It is worth noting that toothpaste cannot express or imply medical effects, and cannot make false or misleading claims of efficacy. At present, the State Food and Drug Administration is stepping up efforts to formulate departmental regulations specifically for toothpaste management, "Toothpaste Supervision and Management Measures," and will promote the promulgation of the regulations as soon as possible.
  2. toothpaste claims "anti-Helicobacter pylori" lack of scientific basis
Helicobacter pylori is mainly found in the human stomach, and there is no evidence that brushing teeth with toothpaste can affect the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach. In addition, the oral cavity is a complex environment in which a variety of microorganisms such as bacteria coexist. Studies have shown that the possible presence of Helicobacter pylori in the mouth is mainly concentrated in saliva and plaque. The correlation between oral Helicobacter pylori and digestive diseases such as periodontal disease, halitosis and gastric cancer is still lack of evidence-based medical evidence. Products such as toothpaste that claim to be "anti-Helicobacter pylori" may have broad-spectrum bacteriostatic agents added. If a large number of long-term use of broad-spectrum bacteriostatic agents, may lead to oral flora disorder, is not conducive to oral health.
Finally, to remind consumers: toothpaste is not a drug, toothpaste can not replace drugs to treat diseases. If you suffer from the disease, it is recommended to follow the doctor's advice for treatment.
